Importing templates

Flow

  1. Open Import / Export, choose the JSON file.
  2. Decide whether Create templates that don't exist yet should be on (otherwise only existing templates are updated).
  3. Select Preview import. A review dialog shows exactly what will be created and updated, plus anything skipped or invalid (with reasons). Nothing is written yet.
  4. Rename any incoming template directly in the dialog, then confirm the import.

Matching

Templates match by id: known ids update in place, unknown ids are created (when enabled). Duplicate ids within one file: the first occurrence wins.

Same-site caveat

Field option ids and child work item type ids are site-specific, so imports are intended for the same site the file was exported from (backup/restore), or sites with identical configuration.
