What is Issue Templates

Last updated 11/06/2026

Overview

Issue Templates by Taskhooker lets Jira admins and template managers define reusable templates that prefill the Create screen the instant a template is picked — summary, description, labels, priority and other fields — and can create an entire child hierarchy (for example an Epic with its Stories and Sub-tasks) from a single submit.

Key capabilities

  • Instant picker — the template list on the Create screen loads from a single prebuilt index, so it opens immediately.
  • Live apply — picking a template fills the form fields in front of you (company-managed projects).
  • Smart values — templates can reference context such as {{today}}, {{parent.key}} or {{currentUser.name}} that resolve when the template is applied.
  • Hierarchies — one template can create a parent plus its whole child tree, correctly parented.
  • Defaults — a template can be pre-selected and auto-applied on every Create screen it covers.
  • Lifecycle & governance — enable/disable, duplicate, owners, categories, granular permissions, import/export.

Where it runs

The app is built entirely on Atlassian Forge. Template data lives in Forge storage inside Atlassian's infrastructure — there are no external servers and no data egress.
