Custom work item hierarchies (Jira Premium) — a single template can now build any custom hierarchy, such as Initiative → Feature → Epic → Story, with its own content and smart values at every level.
Any root type — create a template for any work item type, from the top of your hierarchy down to Story (or a same-level type like Bug).
Hierarchy-aware editor — work item type pickers follow your hierarchy order; child types stay below their parent, and a new child defaults to the level directly below it.

Apply to existing work items — new action on every work item; fill-empty or overwrite, child tree included, smart values resolve against the item's real hierarchy.
Granular permissions — Manage / Delete any / Import & export roles for groups and people; admins always retain full access.
Import & export — JSON backup/restore with dry-run preview and per-template rename on import.
Examples gallery — eight curated templates with full preview and one-click install.
Template lifecycle — enable/disable, duplicate, owners, categories.
List upgrades — prefills/owner/category columns, project & owner filters, bulk actions, instant toggles.
Per-child content — description and labels on every node of a child hierarchy.

Smart values — {{...}} tokens for dates, parent/epic/ancestor context, current user and project.
Live-apply reliability — one field context per project with per-type template visibility.
