Limits and supported configurations

  • Live apply: company-managed projects only. Team-managed projects get post-create apply.
  • Template size: up to 500 child nodes per template, tree depth capped at 5, ~200 KB per template.
  • Templates per Create screen: the live field supports up to 100 templates per project.
  • Import: up to 100 templates per file.
  • Field references in smart values: by field id (ids survive renames; names don't).
  • Custom hierarchies (Jira Premium): any custom hierarchy is supported (e.g. Initiative → Feature → Epic → Story). A work item type can only be used as a root or a child if it is in that project’s work item type scheme — adding a level under Settings → Issue type hierarchy does not add the type to a project on its own.
  • Hierarchy above Epic: chaining uses Jira’s unified parent field; legacy Epic Link setups won’t chain above Epic.
